The height of technology under the Lordship of Christ.

Christian Education—Challenging, Humane, and Personal

DCM Pathfinder helps students become thoughtful, capable, well-formed students under the Lordship of Christ. We draw from Charlotte Mason and Classical Christian education: living books, careful observation, narration, and sound reasoning—not worksheets, drill, or algorithmic profiles.

Every child is made in the image of God—with dignity, unique gifts, and real capacity for growth. Pathfinder serves parents and teachers with clearer insight into how each student understands, communicates, and grows.

An Old Path, Walked with New Tools

Pathfinder joins a long tradition of family-led, faith-formed education—and gives it modern planning strength.

The One-Room Model, Reimagined

Like the prairie schoolhouse, Pathfinder assumes one teacher guiding students of different ages—and plans each child's week accordingly.

Under the Lordship of Christ

Scripture, family, and church guide what students ultimately believe. Technology assists; it never presides.

Living Books, Fixed Standards

Providence Core standards stay fixed; Pathfinder shapes how they are presented this week—never watered down in demand.

Session 1 Monday The Architect's Problem Determine how much roofing material is needed for a scale-model gable roof.
Objective
Use equivalent ratios to compare measurements from a scale drawing to real dimensions.
Parent instructions
Present the problem before naming any fraction rules. Let James estimate, measure the model, and explain his thinking aloud.
Materials
Scale drawing of a gable roof · Ruler · Pencil · Grid paper
Estimated time
~25 minutes
Narration prompt
Tell back how you decided what ratio to use between the model and the real roof.
Providence Core objective
PC-G5-MATH-RATIO-03
Reflection
What part of the problem was hardest to explain?
Session 2 Wednesday Discovering Equivalent Ratios Compare roof measurements and identify the pattern that keeps proportions the same.
Objective
Generate and recognize equivalent ratios in a practical building context.
Parent instructions
Ask James to record pairs of measurements in a table before introducing the term equivalent ratio.
Materials
Monday's work · Colored pencils · Notebook
Estimated time
~25 minutes
Narration prompt
Explain how two different-looking ratios can describe the same relationship.
Providence Core objective
PC-G5-MATH-RATIO-04
Reflection
Where else might builders use the same kind of comparison?
Session 3 Thursday Reading the Blueprint Room Read from If I Built a House and notice how the builder plans on paper before anyone lifts a hammer.
Objective
Connect scale and proportion in the story to the roof measurements from earlier in the week.
Parent instructions
Read the passage aloud or take turns. Pause on the blueprint pages and ask James what the builder had to decide before building.
Materials
If I Built a House · This week's roof drawing
Estimated time
~25 minutes
Narration prompt
Tell how the builder's plan on paper is like the scale drawing you used for the roof.
Providence Core objective
PC-G5-ELA-READ-12
Reflection
What would go wrong if the builder skipped the blueprint?
Session 4 Friday Naming and Practicing the Concept Introduce equivalent fractions and complete a short practice set tied to the roof project.
Objective
Name equivalent fractions and use them to solve a proportion from the architect scenario.
Parent instructions
Connect every example back to the roof model. Keep practice brief and oral when possible.
Materials
Practice sheet (included in pack) · Monday and Wednesday notes
Estimated time
~25 minutes
Narration prompt
Summarize what equivalent fractions mean using your own words and one example from the project.
Providence Core objective
PC-G5-MATH-FRAC-07
Reflection
What would you do differently if the model were twice as large?

Focus: Scale, proportion, and how builders plan before they build

Family or teacher copy required

From student profile to this week's plan

Pathfinder is software you actually use — not just philosophy pages. These are representative views from the live application.

One account, every student

Add homeschoolers, siblings, or roster-linked students. Pathfinder plans each child's week independently.

  • No classroom required to start
  • Mixed ages in one family account
  • Quick links to packs, profiles, and assessments

A complete weekly system — not a curriculum hunt

Plug in and teach

Pathfinder assembles Providence Core standards into ready-to-teach weekly packs so you save time and money searching for the perfect curriculum mix. You remain the teacher; the system does the planning and assembly.

  • Providence Core objectives, sequenced session by session
  • Living books from the human-reviewed catalog
  • Parent instructions, materials lists, and narration prompts included
  • Math and science built on application before theory

Sized for real life — you set the pace

Rhythm grows with the student. Grade 5’s default is 4 sessions × 25 minutes. Younger grades start lighter; high school uses longer blocks. You can always change this in the profile.

Rotating subjects stay in the weekly cycle without turning into a daily checklist.

How Pathfinder fits with DCM

A Pathfinder profile helps shape presentation and pacing for the week — it is not a score, label, or algorithmic verdict on your child.

Frequently asked

What do I receive each week?

A complete weekly pack: session objectives, parent instructions, materials, living-book assignments when ELA is in rotation, narration prompts, Providence Core objective codes, and end-of-week reflection. See the sample week.

Is Pathfinder a full curriculum?

Pathfinder is a complete weekly learning system — Providence Core standards delivered session by session, ready for you to open and teach. It saves you from assembling the perfect curriculum mix yourself.

How much time does Pathfinder take each week?

The default rhythm is three focused sessions of about twenty minutes each. You can adjust session count and length in each student's profile — many families use 3×20; others use 5×20 or longer blocks when the schedule allows.

Do I need to buy books?

Often, yes — Pathfinder assigns passages from the human-reviewed Reading Catalog. Some titles are free public-domain texts; others require a family or library copy. Each catalog entry will show how to access the book.

What's included for free?

Create an account, add one student, complete intake, and generate one full weekly pack — no credit card required. After that, subscribe to continue generating packs and add more students.

How is AI used?

AI assists with wording, sequencing, and pack assembly. You remain the decision-maker: you review the plan, teach the sessions, and record reflections that shape next week.

Can I use Pathfinder with multiple children?

Yes. The Family plan supports up to five students; the Large Family plan supports up to ten. Each child receives an independent weekly pack.

How is Pathfinder different from DCM Classroom?

Pathfinder plans and delivers weekly learning packs. DCM Classroom evaluates submitted work and tracks demonstrated mastery. DCM Play provides student practice missions. They work together but each stands alone.
